Expert Witness Services
Dr. Urits supports plaintiff and defense attorneys from the first review through testimony. He can be retained as a consulting (non-testifying) expert or testifying expert in medical malpractice, personal injury, and DEA, administrative, licensing-board, and criminal matters involving pain medicine or anesthesiology.
Services
Medical record review & case evaluation. Review of procedure notes, anesthesia records, monitoring and medication records, PACU and nursing notes, imaging, pharmacy and prescription-monitoring data, with a candid early assessment and fast initial review.
Standard of care – pain medicine. Indications, consent, technique, guidance, monitoring, complication recognition, and care by physicians, nurse practitioners, and other providers.
Standard of care – anesthesiology. Preoperative evaluation, anesthetic plan, airway management, medications, monitoring, and recovery; care by anesthesiologists and CRNAs.
Causation. Whether an anesthetic, procedure, device, medication, or trauma caused or worsened nerve injury, post-dural puncture headache, airway or dental injury, CRPS, radiculopathy, or failed back surgery syndrome.
Medical necessity & reasonableness. Injections, ablations, neuromodulation, intrathecal therapy, and medications.
Future medical care & cost. Device maintenance, battery replacements, revisions, pump refills and replacement, repeat procedures, medications, and pain-medicine portions of life care plans.
Opioid prescribing, DEA & regulatory matters. Risk assessment, agreements, urine drug testing, prescription monitoring, tapering, buprenorphine and methadone; DEA, administrative, licensing-board, and criminal matters.
Independent medical examinations. In-person examinations with an objective written report in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
Written reports. Clear reports prepared at counsel's request.
Deposition & trial testimony. Measured, clear testimony; remote depositions and testimony available.
Literature & opposing-expert review. Critical review of literature and help preparing technical deposition and cross-examination questions.
Pain Management Procedures Reviewed
Spinal injections; facet and spine joint procedures; radiofrequency ablation; sacroiliac procedures; disc and vertebral procedures; spinal cord, dorsal root ganglion, and peripheral nerve stimulation; intrathecal drug delivery; sympathetic blocks and neurolysis; peripheral nerve, head and face procedures; joint, soft-tissue and regenerative procedures; ketamine and lidocaine infusions; opioid and non-opioid medication management; fluoroscopic, ultrasound, and CT guidance.
Regional Anesthesia Techniques Reviewed
Upper extremity: interscalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular, axillary, suprascapular, and distal nerve blocks.
Lower extremity: lumbar plexus, femoral, fascia iliaca, PENG, adductor canal, IPACK, sciatic, popliteal, and ankle blocks.
Trunk and abdominal wall: paravertebral, ESP, PECS, serratus, TAP, quadratus lumborum, rectus sheath, ilioinguinal, and TLIP blocks.
Head and neck: cervical plexus, scalp, airway, peribulbar, and retrobulbar blocks.
Neuraxial: spinal, epidural, combined spinal-epidural, labor epidural, caudal, and neuraxial techniques for anticoagulated or thrombocytopenic patients.
Other: Bier block, continuous peripheral nerve catheters, local infiltration analgesia, and block adjuvants.
